Celebrating the elegant simplicity of nature reflects our aesthetic and core principle: Being stylish should be a guiltless pleasure.
Mantis shoes are designed to be beautiful, easy to wear and incredibly comfortable.
Equally important is the line’s environmental impact.
All Mantis Shoes are made of locally sourced and recyclable materials.
Our bio degradable uppers are made from water hyacinth one of the world's worst aquatic weeds that infests rivers, dams, lakes and irrigation channels.
In looking to fix rather than create problems, Mantis shoes recognized an opportunity to take this abundant and beautiful material to make products in line with our philosophy.
The soles of our shoes, made from recycled tires, also reflect our desire to have the smallest impact possible.
Our shoes are built to last while you use them and go back into nature with little or no impact when you are done
Now based in Bali, Valeria grew up in a farming area in Espírito Santo, a state in southeastern Brazil, known for its tropical beaches and mountainous nature reserves. In her travels she lived in Rio, New York, London, Berlin and Asia where she developed and refined her aesthetic. She embraces the ideals of an earth conscious approach to design, looking to the future, yet never forgetting the beauty and luxury of good design.
Every Mantis Shoes products fulfills two or more of these standards:
• use of natural fibers such as organic water hyacinth & rattan
• use of upcycled fabrics (ex. soles made from recycled tires)
• manufactured in worker friendly environments, respecting the
local culture and craftsmanship
• conscientious application of printing and packaging materials,
not creating unnecessary waste in any step of our production
• responsible disposal of production waste: leftover material is
offered to other independent designers, and remnants are
sent to a recycling facility, donated to crafters and schools, or
recycled into accessories and trim for future collections
• produce to order based on our wholesale orders, to avoid
overstock and excess inventory;
We limit our use of plastic, reusing these as well as our packing and shipping materials. We print just enough hang tags, catalogs, and marketing collateral, with recycled paper.
